Remember the days when turning your ideas into art meant hours of scribbling, thinking, erasing, and starting over? Well, those days are taking a back seat. My first encounter with AI was nothing short of a revelation. I stumbled upon a generative adversarial network (GAN) tool while knee-deep in a project with an approaching deadline. Desperation turned into pure excitement as I watched this new tool morph my basic ideas into detailed artwork in seconds. It felt like finding a hidden door in a room you thought you knew.

Let me take you back a bit. AI in art wasn't always the powerhouse it is today. It started with simple tasks—think of it as the gardener planting a seed in a vast field. So, in other words, a couple of seeds turn into a forest fast.

Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs): The Game Changer

GANs, oh, how unique is your “Love/Hate” relationship! Imagine two AI entities in a friendly duel: one creates, the other critiques, in a continuous loop until perfection is achieved. It's like having an infinitely patient mentor and critic, ensuring every pixel is in its rightful place. This technology turned my approach to art on its head, enabling me to experiment with styles and combinations I would have NEVER thought of.

The Magic Wand: AI-Assisted Design Tools

Adobe Photoshop's AI features are my next stop. The day I discovered the content-aware fill tool, said, “Ok Adobe! Give us our money’s worth! I see you.”  No longer did I have to sit for meticulously removing unwanted elements. A click here, a swipe there, and yes sir—clean, precise, and exactly how I imagined it.

The Art Style Chameleon: Style Transfer and AI Art Generators

Style transfer is like finding the Hammer of Thor. Suddenly a creator can  cloak their work in the aesthetics of any art movement. This tool isn't just about copy and paste; it's a bridge connecting your creations with the legacy of the greats, allowing you to stand on the shoulders of giants.

When I dipped my toes into animation, AI was my lifebuoy. Automating in-between frames, enhancing motion capture—these tools transformed a very laborious process into a video game format, where my ideas could easily pass from my brain to the screen in a fraction of the time.

Now, I know what you're thinking. Does AI replace the artist? Here's my take: AI hasn't taken my job; it's elevated it. It's the collaborator I never appreciated properly, freeing me from the narrow confines of my mind, so I can soar into the realms of pure creativity with the greats.

It's not all “peaches and cream”, as my grandmother would say. As we embrace AI, we must also grapple with the ethical dilemmas it presents. Where does inspiration end and imitation or mockery begin? Navigating copyright with AI-generated art is like walking a tightrope, but it's a journey we must undertake with an honest mind and open heart.

Learning from the Masters: Case Studies in AI Art

Drawing inspiration from pioneers like Refik Anadol and Sougwen Chung has been a learning experience to say the least. I am not sure if there are many in my culture that are studying these men and their works. So, I will briefly share this about their work, blending AI with human creativity, reassures me that we're not being replaced. We're being amplified, our creative voices made louder and more diverse. The human cannot be replaced unless he deems himself as something to be replaced.

The Crystal Ball: Where Are We Heading in AI?

The future? It's as bright as a supernova. With augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) joining the fight, we're not just creating art; we're stepping into it. Imagine interactive experiences where the viewer becomes part of the canvas. That's the next chapter, and it's one I can't wait to see unfold.
